Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Have there been any adverse reactions among your customers?
A: Our products undergo rigorous testing for cosmetic safety, ensuring stability and suitability for various skin types. No adverse skin reactions have been reported so far, including among those with eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin.

Q: Are your products allergen-free or suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
A: While our products are generally made to reduce the chances of skin reactions, individuals with specific allergies are advised to conduct a patch test as causes of reaction can vary. For all medical skin conditions we recommend you follow your dermatologist‘s advice.

We are committed to avoid ingredients which are potentially harmful, though we acknowledge there may be some debate over concerns. We can formulate products without including the mass-market highly-processed ingredients that could be problematic, especially with long-term exposure or due to contamination concerns during processing. As such, we avoid synthetic foaming agents such as SLS and SLES, preservatives over which some concern exists such as parabens, propylene glycol, some synthetic colours and fragrances and some alcohols.

Note that whilst our solid bar soaps are SLS and SLES-free, they do include a small amount of propylene glycol, which the supplier has put in the base we use.  As bar soaps are rinsed off and do not remain in contact with the skin for long, we expect this small amount of propylene glycol would not cause any skin concern for the vast majority of people.

Our liquid face, hand and body washes are made from 100% natural oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and castor oil. As they are a natural liquid soap they have a pH around 9.5, in line with all soaps and this is fine for most people.

For those who suffer with acne or inflamed skin specifically, we recommend avoiding higher pH / soaps, including natural soaps.  Our oil gel natural facial cleanser might be a better option and is based on sunflower oil, which is an oil that does not block pores, having a comedogenic rating of 0. Our oil gel cleanser is a mild and hydrating product massaged into dry skin and rinsed off with water, leaving softened and relaxed skin.

The latest studies suggest lower pH cleansers may be more suitable for acne than regular soap. Most cleansers on the market which offer a lower pH are mass-produced with cheaper synthetic ingredients that might not appeal to those avoiding highly processed ingredients. Our oil gel cleanser is gentle and full of natural ingredients. It comes in a trial size so you can see if it suits your skin needs without making a large commitment.

We would also suggest adding a gentle chemical (AHA/BHA) exfoliant to a daily routine for acne-prone skin, followed with a moisturiser made with less comedogenic ingredients (meaning the oils used in them don’t block pores), followed by a lightweight sunscreen. Physical exfoliators such as salt or sugar scrubs or those with more abrasive texture maybe too harsh for acne-prone skin that is inflamed. White willow bark extract and aloe gels maybe natural ingredients to look out for as toner ingredients for soothing acne-prone skin.

We plan to develop products that may support acne-prone skin and you can sign up to our mailing list to find out when we launch this. Meanwhile, we would advise you to seek moisturisers made with ingredients like sunflower oil or jojoba oil and avoid things like cocoa butter or coconut oil in your moisturiser as these can block pores.

For those with allergies to essential oils or fragrances, we offer unfragranced options and allergen-free scented alternatives like rose and sandalwood. Please contact us for any specific concerns or for customisation.

Q: Where do you source your raw ingredients?
A: We use high-quality raw ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and castor oil. The creams are sourced from a Dorset-based supplier using ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, jojoba oil, and more. See individual product pages for detailed information about ingredients and feel free to contact us with my further questions.

Q: How eco-friendly is your business?
A: We're committed to improving our sustainability. We have plans to introduce refill options in reusable glass, ocean-reclaimed plastic, or aluminum containers. Our packaging choices aim to reduce waste and environmental impact. We are also developing our solid cosmetics range of bar soaps and shampoo bars, which by their nature require less packaging.

Q: Can you tell me more about your refill service?
A: Customers will be able to opt for monthly or quarterly deliveries or local pick-up. Membership options will offer reduced prices for committed periods. The key benefits include local production, reduced greenhouse gases, and the potential to save bottles from landfill. Please use our Contact Us page to join our waiting list to express your interest in this service.

Q: Are your products suitable for children?
A: We do not yet have any products that are specifically marketed for use on babies from newborn due to additional compliance costs required to do so. But we do prioritise gentle formulas making them suitable for the whole family age three upwards and we test everything on our own family’s skin, young and old.

Q: Can I customize gift sets for special occasions?
A: Absolutely! We offer customizable gift sets for special occasions. Contact us to discuss your preferences and create a personalized gift package.

Q: What sets your brand apart from others in the market?
A: We believe business should be kind to all. We demonstrate this through honesty over marketing hype, simplicity of information and using gentle and effective ingredients sourced via ethical supply chains. Our environmental impact awareness and transparency further distinguish us. We are committed to quality and effective ingredients, cosmetic-science backed formulations, eco-friendly practices, and empowering consumers with information.

Q: What credentials or training do you have in this industry?
A: I have a background in science excelling in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics in school and going on to further study with three degrees in different disciplines from world-renowned universities of London School of Economics and London Business School. I hope that demonstrates my appetite for knowledge and commitment to excellence.

My family’s own health issues led me to spend the last 14 years researching more deeply about food, cosmetics and the environment and how these can affect our health. I have completed courses in cosmetics-making and am dedicated to continual learning, education and innovation based on evidence and science. I believe nature is often a good place to start but that it’s not the answer to all our needs in cosmetics and so I try to marry nature with the latest science in my product range.

My partner Augustus is a lawyer of many years and he helps ensure that our business is working within the relevant UK cosmetic regulations.
